Relaxing and Revising: a half-term well spent

Relaxing and Revising: a half-term well spent

Lana Foster, Managing Director and Jenny Rumble, Senior Guardianship Care Manager and Relax & Revise Programme Manager, recently visited Cambridge Melchior College, midway through this half term’s Relax and Revise Programme. Here is Lana’s account of the day...

"The first thing that struck me was how warm and cosy the college felt. It is very cold here in the UK but CMC was warm and welcoming. Michael Voice, The Principal, welcomed us in on arrival. The feeling you get when you walk in is of a big home rather than a school. The corridors, rooms and bedrooms are traditional rather than modern, but you feel you want to stay as soon as you get there.

This seemed to be mirrored in the students; they all seemed so relaxed, happy and comfortable. Some were sitting in the dining room studying when we arrived, others up in their rooms taking it easy, reading, studying, or planning the rest of the day. We joined them for lunch and they were all looking forward to an afternoon of bowling. After all, there is only so much relaxing you can do in one day. An hour or so of a good, fun activity like bowling surely proves a great way to unwind.

CMC Principal Michael, R&R Programme Manager Jenny, and R&R Activity Leader Don

We spoke to Don who is the resident House Supervisor and the Activities Leader.  Don is very relaxed, yet excellent at raising enthusiasm amongst our group. He took them all to London Dungeons on Sunday and then gave them an impromptu walking tour, culminating in a visit to the famous Tate Gallery. Not only did it seem that all the students had really enjoyed being in the capital city, it also seemed that the group had bonded really well; laughing, joking, and exchanging stories of their trip, and what films they'd watched the night before.

Many had also really enjoyed their day trip to Bluewater, one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, where some had shopped all afternoon, whilst others had gone to the cinema complex there. They were all very much looking forward to going to China Town in London that Saturday for the Chinese New Year celebrations.

I felt very proud of our Relax and Revise programme. It really does offer a great alternative to host family stay to those students who want a bit more freedom to do what they want, when they want, in a very safe, secure and friendly environment."

We are still enrolling now for Easter so if anyone wants to join hurry up and book in as places are filling up fast. You can view our full colour brochure and fees by clicking here, and you can view the full Easter schedule by clicking on the brochure cover below.
