The first half term holiday of the school year has now been and gone, and so to our first Relax & Revise course of the year. Once again, we welcomed students from UK boarding schools nationwide to our residential two-week programme, hosted as usual by Cambridge Melchior College.
Bright World’s bespoke half term and Easter holiday programme offers a unique host family alternative for international students needing somewhere to stay during their school holidays. Relax & Revise has been carefully designed to match the needs and musts of international students aged 12 and above and aims to help them find that healthy balance between relaxing and revising. Optional trips and excursions are also offered each afternoon to allow all students the choice of how to spend their time in Cambridge.
Following the feedback we received from the last few programmes, we have now granted the students much more of an input as to the activities they take part in. Everyone is encouraged to attend a short meeting each morning, where ideas and plans for the day can be discussed and implemented. This time round, our students enjoyed a trip to a nearby farm. Wimpole Home Farm in Orwell is a large 18th-century country estate with parkland, walled gardens, and a working farm. Farms are a completely foreign concept to many international students, so it was an interesting, immersive experience for most. Students also visited a beach on the east coast, where they were seen tucking into hearty portions of Fish & Chips, a British favourite.
CMC Principal, Michael Voice, expressed his delight regarding how well the programme went this half term, and also his reluctance in seeing all the students return back to their schools;
“It’s been brilliant, I hope we can continue to encourage more and more students to join. One of the most bittersweet things is seeing the sadness amongst the students when it has become apparent that the programme is coming to an end”.
We hope the students shared this sentiment, also. The initial response we have received has been wholly positive, particularly from R&R students Fatemah and Ahmed, who both took a minute to provide us with their feedback of the programme. Fatemah, an aspiring dentist, describes her delight in being taken to visit a local company which produces dental equipment, by CMC Principal, Michael. She also reflects on her positive experiences of mixing with and making new friends from many different cultures, and partaking in the many activities offered on the course. Ahmed also echoed this view, recapping what a great 9 days he’d had meeting new people and taking part in trips and excursions. He even comments on how enjoyable the English lessons were. Short videos of both students can be viewed below.
It seems like, after a number of alterations to the programme, we’ve finally found the perfect recipe. Ultimately, the amount of freedom and flexibility offered to students makes Relax & Revise an ideal option for students of any age or background. We look forward to welcoming more students back to Cambridge Melchior College in February, and in May.
