As of September 2018, Cobham Hall School will be providing sixth form students with the opportunity to study A levels, as part of their broad educational programme restructure.
This new programme, which will replace the previous International Baccalaureate curriculum, includes a range of courses, all of which are constructed to complement the A-Level qualifications. These are based around skills which, according to the World Economic Forum, are the top ten skills needed to thrive, and also those most valued by universities and employers. Critical thinking, complex problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and creativity, are just some of the skills incorporated in this.
The school state that the new course will be based on six key elements. As well as the initial A-Levels, the other elements incorporated will be the Extended Project Qualification, Sport, PSHE, Duke of Edinburgh Award, and the Theory of Knowledge, a course which encourages students to become aware of what factors influence their understanding of things.
This comprehensive curriculum will enable Cobham School to offer the flexibility to meet the individual needs and interests of students. For example, any international students whose desire it is to improve their English in preparation for exams and University entry, will be offered the opportunity to do so within this programme. As well as the 21 different subjects currently being offered for A-Level Studies, the school also suggest that other subjects may be considered if there is sufficient demand for them. They also state there is the possibility of arrangements being made at alternative venues, for any sports that the school facilities do not cater for.
“Cobham Hall is committed to remaining a small school with small class sizes, single-sex education, and the principles of Round Square. We strongly believe that this combination, with a continued focus on challenge and the individual, will bring the best out of our girls, provide them with the best opportunities and enable us to strengthen our commitment to service and adventure.” – Julie Shelley, Registrar
