Box Hill School pupil lands part in BBC crime drama

A pupil from Bright World partner school, Box Hill School from Ashtead, near Dorking, has landed a role in a top BBC crime drama.

Phoebe Jones, 14, will play a part in a one-off special episode of Jonathan Creek, which stars comedian and actor Alan Davies, and is scheduled to be broadcast at Easter.

Auditions for the role were held at the end of November last year and Phoebe got the call a few weeks later to say she had been successful.

Filming involving Phoebe's character will take place on three days this week and next, on location in Kingston. Action begins at 8am and finishes at around 7pm.

Phoebe, who is a year 9 pupil at the Mickleham-based independent school, said: "I couldn't believe it when I received the call to say I'd got the part. I screamed and started shaking with excitement and nerves.

"It is my dream to act professionally both on screen and stage, and to win a role in such a well-known and popular TV programme is an amazing opportunity. I feel I've now got a foot in the door and I hope this part will lead to other great roles.

"This is the first time I've been involved with a TV show so I can't wait to start filming and meeting the other actors. The days will be really long, but to be successful in the acting industry you have to put in a lot of hard work and commitment, and luckily it's something that I really love doing.

"I also think Alan Davies is great and I hope that I will get the chance to have a photograph taken with him."

Alison van Staden, Phoebe's house mistress at Box Hill School, added: "It is wonderful to see Phoebe's talent being recognised at such a high level. Phoebe is very determined and remarkably motivated to act, and she has a huge personality.

"Phoebe is a gifted actress and teachers at the school have predicted for some time that she would be famous. She is always keen to get involved and has taken a lead role in our school theatre productions for the past two years.

"We are immensely proud of her and look forward to seeing more success in the future.”
