As the 2016-17 academic year has drawn to a close, we can all sit back and congratulate ourselves on what has been a very smooth-running year. It would be impossible to say that there have not been some challenges along the way, with a few cancelled flights, host families dropping out due to illness and the occasional student being suspended from school for bad behaviour. This is when, we as guardians, really show our worth and step in to make sure any problems are quickly ironed out. Now, while our students are enjoying a well-earned break, the office shifts to a different mode of plan plan plan. The September arrival and first exeat are, for us, just round the corner, so there is no time time to rest on our laurels. We are powering full steam ahead towards academic year 2017-18.
In the last issue, we talked about trips to emerging markets to see our new agents and students. This has continued. Lana and Charlotte attended an excellent British Council fair up in Northampton, Lana has been to Vietnam to visit new and existing partners and James has just returned from a successful trip to Hong Kong. We are happy to report that exisiting agents are all very happy with our service and we hope that new relationships we have sought out will become fruitful new working partnerships Partnerships is what it is all about and our agent and parent relationships are ALL important to us.
Bright World Invests in Training with the Best
Fiona Lee from SAFE (Safeguarding Associates for Excellence) attendied our Company Conference in June. All new members of staff received Child Protection training and the whole company benefited from a refresher session to keep our knowledge up to date. We invest in a lot of training for our staff and on 19th September 2017 our Director of Safeguarding, Claire Taylor, will be attending a CSE Masterclass organised by SAFE. Claire will be feeding back to us what she has learnt from the keynote speakers she has listened to during the event.
News from our departments
We have had TWO babies! Jenny Rumble has given birth to a beautiful baby boy, Jesse and Su Warren to a gorgeous little girl, Carla. We really miss Jenny and Su and cant wait to have them back in November and March respectively. We are also now allowed to tell everybody that we have been shortlsted in the TOP FIVE in a BRAND-NEW category at the 12th Study Travel Awards: ST Star Service Provider. This is very exciting news as it will be the first year that Guardianship Organisations are included in the list of possible nominees.
We are delighted to announce that this year’s Company Conference on 13th June was a great success. This year’s Key note speaker, Dr Graham Hill, Consultant Criminologist went down a storm. We are very sorry to report that we will be losing our star Sales and Marketing Assistant, Rachel Gladman as she moves onto pastures new in Publishing in London. News to follow on Rachel’s replacement.
Our new Relax & Revise programme is ready to be launched in Cambridge in October. With two successful years under our belt in London, we are excited to be holding it in Cambridge. We are delighted to welcome a new member to our Care team, Robbie Piper who started earlier in July and is currently in training ready for the busy September start. Our student numbers are looking good so we have hard work ahead of us.
Travel and Accommodation
An exciting development within our Accommodation Department is just about to be launched. Blink for Host Families is a huge new innovation for us. Host Families will soon be able to login to their Blink launchpad from their PC or any mobile device, see what students they are hosting and submit updates on their household and availability.
We have increased our placement numbers this year but only just. We predict that with developments to the Blink for Agents portal combined with our increased sales efforts, next year will see more substantial growth.
