This lovely school is situated in the rural village of Upper Dicker in the heart of the Sussex countryside, close to the coastal resort of Eastbourne. The school is based on a former country estate with grounds extending over 80 acres /32 hectares, whose buildings form the core of teaching, activities and accommodation for students. The school campus has a unique, domestic feel, which forms a home from home for our students and creates a real sense of community and freedom. There are excellent sports facilities at Dicker.
Most bedrooms have 2, 3 or 4 beds and have a bed and wardrobe and sometimes a study desk. Bathrooms are shared. Some boarding houses have their own communal spaces for students to relax.
Sports facilities include tennis courts, sports hall, swimming pool, gym, squash courts, basketball court, astro-turf, playing fields, drama theatre, dance studios, cricket nets and small golf course.
Computer suite for access to internet (filtered) and email. Wi-fi is available. Note that students will need to bring their own laptops to access wi-fi. The Village Shop for drinks and snacks. Laundry is done for students at least twice each week.
St Bede’s staff live in the same houses as the students and care for them 24 hours a day. The House Parent is responsible for all students in each boarding house. There is access to medical careif students are sick.
English and Activities Programme
This programme is available with a minimum stay of 1 week and up to 7 weeks. The Actvities course closes 17th August. There is a minmum stay of 2 weeks.
The centre welcomes up to 270 students per week from many different countries.
There is a full programme including lessons and a wide range of sports, activities, clubs and Sports Academy options to choose from. There is evening social entertainment and there are two excursions per week. Contact us to see a sample itinerary.
There are 22½ hours of lessons per week (4½ hours per day) including English Skills, Language Activitiesand Project Lessons. Beginners follow an intensive English course.
Academic Preparation Course
This course combines English language training and activities with a selection of academic subjects to help prepare students for GCSE and A level study at UK boarding schools or simply to give them a more practical and academic summer programme. The course welcomes up to 100 students per week from different countries.
