It enjoys excellent road and rail links to London (45 minutes by train) and is midway between both Heathrow and Gatwick airports (average 30 minutes by road). No problem then with meeting pupils at the airport in school transport!
Since its establishment as a school in 1928, facilities have been expanded and updated constantly and now include a magnificent indoor swimming pool complex completed in 2004, two state- of the –art Computer suites and, since September 2005, a multi million pound Performing Arts Centre with 750 seater theatre and professional standard sound and lighting. The Centre also houses two drama workshops, four Music Practice Rooms, a Recording Studio with Link room and two Music Technology suites with Apple Macs for composition work. In January 2009 a brand new Preparatory (Junior) School was opened on site for 120 little girls aged two to 11. Both Prep and Senior sites have wireless access.
Ranked12th in the UK in League Tables for Added Value
In Summer 2009, our girls again attained a 100% pass rate at GCSE and we celebrated a 99% pass rate at A level with 79% of those passes being A to C grades. All our girls go on to Higher Education with places at top ranking Universities (including Oxford and Cambridge), Art, Drama and Music Colleges. Such is the strength of our Art department and its reputation that Central St Martins regularly offers our girls places BEFORE they know their results!
In 2006 Government performance tables placed St Teresa’s in 12th position in the country for adding educational value. This is based upon the first rate results our pupils regularly attain at GCSE and the excellent teaching received here and we are justifiably proud that this has now been publicly recognized.
Every girl is valued for her individual contribution
There are just over 500 girls at St Teresa’s, including 90 boarders. The Sixth form is 90 strong and has its own dedicated centre on campus including individual study bedrooms for boarders. Year 11 girls (aged 15/16) also occupy single rooms while younger girls share with friends in their age group.
There is a rare warmth between staff and girls of all ages who care for and respect each other. The pastoral care system is excellent and problems are quickly identified and solved. We are an inclusive school where everyone is valued, whatever her talents and strengths.
Girls are encouraged to explore their capabilities to the full and to discover their own passions. The school has many music ensembles, choirs and orchestras which regularly win regional and national prizes. It also has national and international stars amongst its sportswomen. St Teresa’s is a school with a “can do” ethos which provides the level of support and care necessary to ensure that each girl achieves to her maximum and can shine in her chosen area.
Help to settle in
Pupils from overseas whose first language is not English, are assessed on arrival at the school and receive as many one - to - one or small group lessons in English as a Second Language as is deemed necessary by expert tutors. In order to help girls from outside the UK to settle in as quickly as possible, they join two days before the start of term and enjoy many activities specially planned to help them get to know each other, their staff and the school. Once term has started, they can then concentrate on getting to know their mentor (the experienced student who has been charged with looking after them until they feel “at home”) and on school work and routines.
There are many weekend trips and after-school activities and clubs so girls are kept busy in the hours outside the classroom too! The school offers a true English boarding school experience.
Catholic in foundation, St Teresa’s welcomes girls of all nationalities and denominations and prides itself on being a school for the individual.
