The history of Portsmouth university dates back to 1870. Since then the university has maintained its commitment to promoting and maintaining excellence in teaching and research across its five faculties. Multi-million pound investment has provided state of the art teaching and living accommodation in the City centre ensuring a friendly and secure environment. For example, 2003 saw the opening of a brand new sports hall and a new £11 million home for the Business School.

Portsmouth itself is an island city in the centre of England’s Southern coastline and has been described as “England’s Flagship City” – a reference to its long and interesting history as an important maritime centre. Road and rail links are excellent, providing good access to London, and Heathrow and Gatwick international airports. Regular ferry services link Portsmouth to France and Spain. The city boasts many excellent facilities for sport, including sailing and windsurfing.

Most of the teaching buildings in Portsmouth University are located on the Guildhall campus in the city centre. The International Recruitment Office team is dedicated to supporting international students and welcomes students to join the free induction programme before the beginning of term and free optional English classes for academic purposes whilst studying there.
