Canterbury Christchurch was founded in 1962 and is built on what was the old orchard ground of St. Augustine’s Abbey. The college is still surrounded by the medieval abbey’s wall and enjoys the strong heritage of Canterbury city. The University College is the predominant centre of higher education in Kent for the public services – most notably teacher training, nursing and social care.
Students have the benefit of an attractive, well-maintained campus within walking distance of the city and all its attractions. They find it big enough to enjoy the culturally rich offerings, but small enough to feel at home. Canterbury is also a short journey away from the bright lights of London. The college has a record of high attainment and academic accomplishment. In a recent external assessment, fifteen of their subject areas were identified as “excellent” by external quality assessment agencies.
