Co-educational Boarding School in the West Midlands
Located in a leafy suburb of the city of Wolverhampton, The Royal School Wolverhampton is close to Birmingham, the UK’s second city, and only 40 minutes from Birmingham International Airport and two hours from London. It is a co-educational day and boarding school for students aged two to 18. Boarding pupils are accepted from the age of 11. The School was founded in 1850 and its patron is HRH The Earl of Wessex.
As a small, friendly community, we know our pupils as individuals and that they receive all the benefits of a boarding experience in a “family” environment. We aim to ensure that they become happy and successful, acquiring both the qualifications and the life-skills needed to prosper in the modern world. The close care of our tutors help to ensure that pupils achieve their full academic potential, whilst a wide range of extra-curricular activities is available to develop character and leadership.
Our most able pupils regularly excel and we send many pupils to Oxbridge and other top universities. At the same time, we also ensure that the needs of pupils of all abilities are addressed. Whilst 98% of our leavers go to their first choice university, some have other ambitions and we ensure that they are fully prepared for their future. In 2015, a most welcome 19% of A Level grades attained were at A*/A with particularly excellent results in our STEM subjects. 33% of our students in Chemistry attained A*/A and 50% in Maths attained A*/B of which 39% are at A*/A. While in English Literature 60% attain A*/B and an amazing 100% achieved A*/A in modern foreign languages. As a non-selective school, we are very proud of these results.
We aim for excellence in sport together with a wide range of activities for all. As a small school, there is every chance to represent the School in sports as well as in the numerous clubs and societies, including Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh Awards to name but two.
The Royal is a small, cohesive community with a friendly atmosphere for boarders and day pupils alike. Our strong academic tradition is based upon individual attention and encouragement, as well as an excellent pastoral care based upon respect, tolerance and understanding of others. The Royal combines traditional values with a modern outlook and a 'real-world' attitude. At the Royal, education is about developing the whole individual.
