St Andrews School is independent preparatory school for girls and boys aged 2-13 with boarding available for children aged 7 plus.
Short term boarders can also be accommodated for four weeks, half a term, one term or longer.
Housemaster, David Haggis, has created a very caring and homely atmosphere in the boarding house. The number of boarding places is limited to ensure that each child is given the individual attention that he or she needs.
The Housemaster is supported by live in tutors, Mr and Mrs Shouksmith who have three young boys of their own.
International students benefit immensely from boarding at an English Prep school. They experience a different culture, whilst improving their English by specialist teaching which is both entertaining and educational, using role-play, communication games and project work.
When children enter the Upper School, aged seven, they remain under the guidance and care of a Form Tutor who makes sure that they are happy, making good progress and are sufficiently challenged by their work.
Classes are both friendly and disciplined and children learn to think for themselves, to question, to create and to appreciate. Competition is seen as a useful stimulus - it is important for children to learn how to succeed and how to judge their own performance.
One of the advantages of being a larger preparatory school is that St Andrew's can offer a wider range of subjects, and ensure that children are taught in smaller groups according to their own ability.
St Andrew’s emphasises values that will last for life: kindness and compassion; honesty and integrity; creativity and resourcefulness; courage and a strong sense of purpose.” Jeremy Griffith, Headmaster.
