Co-educational Boarding School in East Sussex
Eastbourne College offers a full boarding experience to day and boarding pupils. It is selective but not highly selective and fully co-educational. Pupils are given every opportunity to achieve across the board whether it is in the academic classroom, the creative arts departments, or on the sports field. They thrive in this welcoming and purposeful environment and develop into confident, able individuals.
Academically, pupils achieve outstanding results, outperforming much more selective schools: in 2016, 78% of all A Level and AS Level grades were A*, A or B and over 98% of this year's 121 GCSE Year 11 pupils achieved five or more A*-C grades, with 27% of all grades at A*. Over the last seven years 49 pupils have won places to Oxbridge; an average of seven places per year.
Work has now begun on Project 150, Eastbourne College’s £33m investment in first class independent education for the 21st century. Well over an acre of land will be transformed to deliver: 32 state-of-the-art classrooms; a sports centre the equal of any in the region; a very large dining hall with function rooms and café; a three-storey pavilion; a foyer attached to the College theatre, a reception area, a new school shop and plentiful social and exhibition space.
Every pupil is encouraged to take full advantage of the College’s extensive sports programme, with many achieving excellence at regional and national level. In addition to representing the College in the major sports of rugby, hockey, cricket and netball, pupils have the opportunity to try other sports like fencing, sailing, rowing, golf and rugby fives.
The College considers the performing arts to be a vital element in the education of all pupils with all pupils in Year 9 studying music and drama as an integral part of their curriculum. The opportunities to perform are numerous in the state of the art Birley Centre, the fully equipped College Theatre or the Le Brocq drama studio.
Co-curricular activity is vigorous and pastoral support renowned. Pupils and their families are recognised for who they are and every individual is valued in this educational community where strong relationships are nurtured and highly prized.
