Ashville College

Ashville College is an independent day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 4-18 years. The College is in Harrogate, one of the North of England’s most attractive towns, and is close to the local airport and major road and rail links. It has good shops, cinemas, lots of places to eat, and is set in the heart of beautiful countryside. Harrogate has all the attractions of a city without the drawbacks of urban living.

Ashville College was founded in 1877 by the Methodist Church. We believe that our teaching, facilities and environment reflect the very best in contemporary education. Our aim is to provide a broad, balanced and appropriate education for each of our students. We recognise that no two children are the same, therefore we cannot create a formula for education which will work for every student. Instead we focus on individual development, and seek ways to help each member of our community discover his or her strengths.

The school has outstanding academics and was listed as the best school in the UK for A level Maths in 2004 and Business in 2006 (The Good Schools Guide). The school has also achieved high standards in languages with exam candidates in the top 5 of the UK in French and German in 2004, 2005 and 2006. The top university destinations include Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, York and Manchester.

Boarding school life

Ashville was graded Graded Excellent in all 5 categories by Boarding inspectors in January 2007. Boarders at Ashville live in our well-equipped and comfortable Houses. There are no more than eight students in any dormitory and Sixth Formers have study bedrooms. Boarders have their own kitchens, lounges, cable TV, video, DVD and Internet access. There is also a Medical Centre which is available 24hours a day, 7 days a week. The school campus has playing fields, a sports centre and swimming pool, all of which can be used after school and at weekends.
